Symptoms of Too Much Sun
Most of the time, overexposure to the sun and the damage we experience is invisible, with sunburns being an obvious exception. While signs of sunburn include redness and painful skin, severe sunburn or even sun poisoning symptoms can include blistering, swelling, a fever, dehydration, tingling, headache, nausea, and chills. Cool Down
Take a cool shower or bath to help soothe your skin, and cool your internal temperature. If you’re unable to take a shower immediately, use a cool, wet cloth or ice compress on the sunburned areas to provide some relief from pulsing heat, reduce inflammation, and relieve the pain. Cool the skin frequently over the first few days until the redness, pain, and swelling subside.
Get Extra Rest
Take it easy and get some extra sleep. Sleep is restorative and provides time for the body to do repairs and manage the damage and inflammation caused by the damage. Sleep and relaxation will aid your body’s ability to heal itself.
Hydrate
Sunburns damage the body’s ability to maintain a healthy barrier protection, which can draw moisture away from your skin. Drink plenty of fluids to replenish electrolytes and water lost. Staying well hydrated will create the ideal environment for your body to start the healing process.
Oatmeal Soak
Take time for a full-body skin replenishment by soaking in an oatmeal bath. If your skin is dry and hot, I recommend taking an oatmeal bath. For a large area of sunburn, an oatmeal bath can feel like a lifesaver. It helps reduce the urge to itch, is anti-inflammatory, and is very soothing for irritated skin. Just add 1 to 2 cups of organic, whole raw oats.
Aloe Vera
Pure aloe vera gel (with no additives) has anti-inflammatory and healing properties to soothe skin. If you have a plant at home, you can cut a piece of the aloe vera fresh, squeeze it, and rub it onto your skin directly.
