On today’s episode of The Spa Dr. Podcast, I’m delving into a holistic approach to skin types with you. Over my past 20 years as a naturopathic physician, I’ve never found the typical skin types (oily, dry, sensitive, mature, etc.) to be helpful in truly addressing skin issues. So, when I was writing my book Clean Skin From Within, I redefined skin types around the root causes behind them. I discovered that there are 6 root causes behind skin issues, but not everyone has all 6. I noticed certain patterns in my patients, so I created 5 skin types that each have a combination of several of the root causes. When you find out which skin type you are, it makes it much easier to address the root cause and completely clear up skin issues. I go into depth on all 5 skin types in today’s podcast, so you can start addressing YOUR root causes and improve not only your skin but also your overall health!

Transcript of A Holistic Approach to Your Skin Type
Hey everyone. Dr Trevor Cates here, welcome to The Spa Dr. Podcast. Today I don’t have a guest because I want to talk with you about skin types and I know that a lot of people ask me about their skin type, what skin type they are, but why do we really want to know about skin types? Because I want to back up for a second. Skin is our largest organ and it’s right on the surface of our bodies. So that’s why I like to call skin our magic mirror that gives us great clues about our overall health. So anytime we have skin issues, whether it’s dry skin, oily skin, acne, Rosacea, Melasma, hyperpigmentation, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, premature aging, the list goes on and on. Whatever your chronic skin issues are, your skin tendency is, we want to find out the root cause behind it. Why do you have that skin issue to begin with?
Because if you don’t know why, if you don’t know the underlying cause that it’s harder to help. Sure, you can use more makeup to cover high hyperpigmentation or to cover up acne. But it’s really not ideal because in the end really people know you’ve got on make up, you’re hiding something, you’re covering up what have you have to run out the door and you don’t have time to put on makeup and I want you to have natural beauty and radiance. Your skin is giving you information about your health. So stop covering it up. And also the typical approach to using topical steroids or bandaid approach to things like Eczema is not really the best situation either because the more you continue to cover up skin issues and and continue to hide it, if the root causes behind it are not addressed, then those root causes are going to show up in your health in some other way.
For example, I’ve seen, in my 20 years of seeing patients as a naturopathic physician? I’ve seen patient, I’ve heard stories of patients who have continued to cover up or suppress skin issues and then it comes up in other ways like for example, Eczema. So maybe somebody had Eczema as a child and use a lot of topical steroids and that sort of approach to, to kind of a bandaid approach to their skin. But that address, that root cause was never addressed. So because of that, that shows up in their health in some other way. So oftentimes it’ll show up like for example, as asthma. And then later on, if it’s still not addressed, maybe they just start using inhalers, but they’re not addressing the root cause of inflammation, then it’ll show up maybe as autoimmune disease. So we want to make sure that we’re addressing the root causes.
And I’ve talked about the root causes on The Spa Dr. Podcast. You can catch that episode, but we’ll talk about some of those root causes today. Because what I decided to do is to redefine skin types, to help people figure out what are the root causes that are impacting your skin. I want to help you address your skin issues by addressing the root cause. So there are six root causes behind skin issues and, and, but you know, it’s not always easy to figure out what they are. They are things like hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, oxidative damage, blood sugar imbalances, and those sorts of things gut issues, microbiome disturbance, and these are the sorts of things that as I list them off, you’re probably thinking, well, Dr Cates, that’s not just for skin issues. There are a lot of health issues associated with those root causes.
And that’s true. And if you’ve watched my podcast, you’ve heard a lot of guests come on and we’ve talked about these root causes and if you can address them, you’re going to help not only your skin, but you’re going to help prevent and address other health issues. So again, look at your skin as a tool, as information on the outside. You don’t need special imaging equipment to see skin, the organ skin. You don’t need x rays or CT scans. All you need to do is look in the mirror to see information about your skin. It is oftentimes can be one of the first signs that something is out of balance with your health. So when I work one on one with patients, it’s like solving a mystery. I’m trying to figure out what is the root cause behind their skin issues. And I want to try and figure out what that root cause is and how we can best address it.
So when I see patients, I have a long visit, we do a comprehensive history and I look at their family history. I look at their medical history, their own personal journey with their health. And I also will order lab tests to figure out what’s going on with the root causes and help identify them. And I’ve been doing that for about 20 years now. But when I started to write my book, clean skin from within, I started to think, okay, I know I can’t sit down one on one with everybody. So wanted to figure out a system, a way to help people who don’t have a chance to come to work with me one on one to figure out how they can find their root causes and address them. So that’s why I created these skin types. Now the skin types are not the typical skin types. You’re not going to hear me saying dry skin, oily skin. Um, mature skin since those are not going to particularly help you find the root cause. I redefined skin types and gave them peoples names, so they’re amber, Olivia, sage, Emmett and heath and I gave them all people’s names because I see all of my patients as people, not just a skin condition or a skin disease. So I wanted to give them all human names and I created these with a group of root causes behind each one.
So today I’m going to go through the five skin types so that you can help figure out which of these you are and then start working on addressing the root causes so that you can have that healthy, vibrant looking skin and also help with addressing those root causes that might be playing a role in your health and other ways. You can also go directly to theskinquiz.com it’s an online quiz. Take just a few moments. It’s free and you can find out your skin type. If you haven’t done that already, you might want to pause the podcast, go take the quiz and then come back and watch this podcast. Because as I go through these, it’ll help for you to know which of these are you are before you actually listen or watch this podcast. But as I go through you’ll probably be able to figure out which of these you are. But the trick is that sometimes when people are listening to these five different skin types, they think, well I might be more than one of these. They might start to associate with more than one. So when you take the quiz, make sure that when you answer all of the questions that you are talking about, what is your biggest skin issue right now today? Not what was your skin issue when you were younger or not, but you know maybe what it was last week. But what is it today? What is your biggest skin concern? So when you answer the skin quiz and that way it’s going to give you your primary skin type. And yes, you may have more than one skin type, you may fit into more than one of these and certainly pay attention to all the recommendations with these, but you can, um, you can focus on your primary skin, type the number one first. And then as those symptoms start to subside, you could take the skin quiz again and find out what’s remaining because you might still have some other skin issues and then you can get some tips on how to address those. So again, I’m going to go through the five skin types and go to theskinquiz.com to find out yours.
So the first one I want to talk about is probably the most common and that is the Olivia skin type. So I’m going to start off with talking about some characteristics of this Olivia skin type. And, and again, this is to help you find out the root causes and really address it from the inside out and also on the outside. So Olivia skin types tend to have oilier skin. They also tend to be more prone to acne as well as black heads, white heads and large pores. And they might have something called sebaceous hyperplasia. Now if you don’t know if you have that and you can search it if you want, but if you’ve been to get your skin checked out and dermatologist is giving you this diagnosis and you probably know you have that skin condition. So what are the big root causes behind Olivia?
Well, there are four of the six root causes that are a trigger for the Olivia skin type. Those are the big things that are going on here. They are blood sugar issues, hormonal imbalances, microbiome imbalances, and inflammation. Those are the big root causes. So when you think about these and how to address them, let’s talk about that. So with blood sugar being a big root cause, you want to be careful of your sugar intake. I know it’s a lot easier said than done, but certainly sugar is one of the big trigger foods for acne and Olivia skin types in general. So what you want do is you want to avoid foods that are high in sugar. You might want to look at the back of a label, look at the sugar content, and how much is in there. Also thinking about the foods that you’re eating. How it might impact your blood sugar because the reason why sugar is a problem is that when you eat foods that turn to sugar or sugar, that increases the blood sugar in your body, that increases insulin. That increase in the hormone insulin causes excess sebum production, the oils in the skin, as well as excess androgen activity. Now these are the things that are big acne triggers, so that’s why and so important to look at these for the Olivia skin type. So look at ways to reduce your sugar intake and really look at ways to eat more of a blood glucose balancing diet and so balanced meals and making sure that you’re not eating too carbohydrate heavy, that you’re getting in adequate fats and proteins along with healthy sources of carbohydrates. Not all carbs are bad. Fruits and vegetables are fantastic, but we want to make sure that you’re eating the healthiest, high fiber rich carbs rather than the ones that are just going to spike your blood sugar.
Okay. Inflammation is another big root cause. So you want to look, look at other ways that you can reduce pro anti-inflammatory foods. So you want to, you want to be eating in addition to avoiding sugar, you want to look at other ways that you can reduce these big trigger foods that increase inflammation. Things like, like dairy is one. Sugar is another one. I talk about 10 different foods to avoid and my book Clean Skin from Within and the two week program to kind of do a reset diet. And um, and also you want to be eating more anti-inflammatory flute foods. And again, I talk about all of these anti inflammatory foods and my book clean skin from within. And I talk about, I share recipes to be able to incorporate more of these foods in your diet because it’s important to know how to do this.
Also you want to look at ways to balance your hormones. That’s going to be really important, especially things that you know, we know that androgen excess is a big trigger for acne and both men and women. So, um, what to look at, ways to look at balancing hormones. One thing to think about with your diet is dairy products, dairy products, milk, and any other dairy products come from a lactating mammal. So because of the nature of that, they are going to contain hormones and even if they are free range. I mean, sorry, grass fed cows and they’re organic, no hormones added. They’re still going to contain hormones because it comes from a lactating mammal.
So you want to be careful about eating dairy products for a number of reasons. One is because of potential hormones. Also you want to make sure you’re eating organic as much as possible because pesticides can have hormone disrupting effects in the body. So you want to reduce your exposure to pesticides through the foods that you eat. And also looking at other ways in your environment that you can reduce your exposure to hormone disrupting chemicals. So also you want to boost your gut health. You want to make sure that your gut, your gut microbiome, those microorganisms that live in and protect your digestive system are working, that’s all in a great balance. So you want to look at eating probiotic rich foods like fermented vegetables and coconut yogurt. You might want to also look at taking a supplement at the spa doctor. We have some supplements. We have a microbiome builder that is our probiotic supplement and that’s one that I recommend for Olivia skin types.
You also want to make sure that you’re supporting your skin topically, so making sure that you’re using skincare products that have the right Ph for your skin, that have that mild acidity and then aren’t going to have any, um, anything that blocks your pores and creates more congestion and oxidized oils and sebum in your pores. So using clean skincare products that actually help with the Ph balance on the skin microbiome are going to be important. Of course at The Spa Dr. we have the Daily Essentials four step skincare system that’s fantastic for Olivia skin types.
And although nutritional deficiencies aren’t really the root cause, one of the big root causes behind Olivia skin types. There are nutrients that are particularly helpful for the skin with Olivia’s skin types such as zinc. Zinc is a really important one in that most important nutrients for the Olivia’s skin type. You can get a dose of that in The Spa Dr.’s skin, hair and nail support, supplement or find a good source.
Okay. Now I’m going to move onto the Sage skin type. So what does it mean to be a sage skin type? This is another one of the most common of the five skin types. Again, you can go to theskinquiz.com and find out which one yours is. But here’s some things about the sage skin type. What does aged skin type notices is that their skin tends to be aging faster than other people around them. So I know that’s very frustrating. So you look at p, other people your age and you think, why does my skin look like it’s aging faster? Okay, so that’s you’re probably a Sage skin type. So you might be noticing excess wrinkles, more sagging skin, loose skin thinning or crepey skin.
Chronically dry skin can play into this as well as maybe you have difficulty with wound healing. You, you get a scrape or a cut and it takes a long time for your skin to heal. Those are all signs of the Sage skin type. So what are the root causes of sage? There are four of the six root causes. They are different, some are similar, but they are different than the Olivia skin type root causes. Sage skin type root causes are oxidative damage, blood sugar issues, hormonal imbalances, and nutritional deficiencies.
So let’s talk about how to address those root causes. One thing is with oxidative damage. You want to make sure you’re protecting your skin from sun damage because that’s one of the big causes of oxidative damage from the sun, from being outdoors is sun exposure so make sure you’re protecting your skin, especially during those peak hours.cWearing hats. Coverups, zinc oxide based sunblocks. I’ve got lots of information in our blogs about sun protection. We’ve had other podcast guests come on like Doctor Kara Bart. To talk about about protecting your skin against sun damage. So take a look at those. You want to make sure that you’re protecting. You also want to avoid toxins in your environment. Pay attention to the clean body section of the Cean Skin from Within book. If you have a copy of that, you can look that and ways that you can reduce your overall exposure to toxins in your environment because that’s going to help protect you against oxidative damage. Also, getting in antioxidant rich foods are going to be like colorful fruits and vegetables are going to be important.
Another tip is to make sure that you’re, uh, you’re avoiding excess sugar. So sugar is also a big problem, a big trigger food for Sage skin types, but for a different reason than Olivia skin types for the siege skin types. And it has more to do with glycation issues. So what happens with glycation is that when you eat sugar or foods that turn to sugar, it’s going to create glycation issues in the body. That means glucose binds to proteins and the body. And in the case of skin, we’re talking about collagen. Collagen is what gives our skin that nice texture and firmness. But when glucose binds to it and makes it more rigid and less elastic, so it leads to more premature aging, sagging skin, wrinkles. So that’s why it’s really important to watch your sugar intake, reduce your sugar intake, follow those clean sugar balancing practices that we talk about in the Clean Skin from Within book. I talk about, that’s my book.
So the third thing is to really think about as a really important tip is looking at your hormones and how you can balance your hormones. That’s one of the big root causes, right? So what are other ways that you can balance your hormones? What are the things you can do with your diet is to eat more brassica or cruciferous vegetables. This group of, of vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, those types of vegetables actually have hormone balancing effects because they help with estrogen metabolism, which then can help with balancing other foods. You also want to make sure you’re getting garlic, onions, colorful fruits and vegetables. All of these types of foods help with hormone metabolism and hormone balance. And so also making sure that you’re getting in time for stress management because, because if you’re stressed, that can definitely trigger more hormone imbalances. Lots of stress management, podcast guests that I’ve had on the podcast. So check those out. Find out ways that you can incorporate daily stress management practice. I also talk about that in the clean mind section of my book Clean Skin from Within.
You also want to boost your nutrients. So one of the most important nutrients for the sage skin type is Collagen. So you could do a collagen supplement. We have a Collagen Plus that. We sell this bad actor, you also can increase your intake of vitamin C to help support. And Vitamin C is one of the important nutrients we need to make Collagen. So we have a Vitamin C Fizz, it’s an effervescent vitamin C powder that you could just add to water and it does not have sugar. It is, it is naturally sweetened, but it is not going to increase your blood sugar. So people love that drink. I actually love to combine the Vitamin C Fizz and Collagen Plus together as a nice drink. So making sure that you’re getting your collagen support.
Also, you want to make sure you’re using rejuvenating skincare, skincare products that help that are rich in antioxidants to help address that oxidative damage or cause slowing down the collagen breakdown. And so that those are really important. And so using the Daily Essentials, Four Step Skin Care System is a great way to get that hydration and the antioxidants that you need without stripping the skin of those beneficial oils that help us age gracefully. So, um, you, you can, you know, make sure that you check out the spa doctor skincare products if you’re a Sage skin type, perfect for your skin.
Okay, now I’m going to move on to the Emmett skin type. And this is another fairly popular one it’s not as big or as common as the first two, but certainly Emmett skin type is a big one. And that’s partly because there are a lot of skin conditions associated with the Emmett skin type. Now this is the skin type that I was when I was little and had a lot of struggles with my skin. So I know a lot about the Emmett skin type. And so what you see with common conditions that you see with the Emmett skin type or allergic skin reactions can be here, not they know. That doesn’t mean that you always have allergic skin reactions. But listen to this list, if you have any of these, it could indicate that you have an Emmett skin type. And then I suggest go to take the skin quiz by going to theskinquiz.com and finding out for yourself. So allergic skin reactions, chronic itching or dry scaly skin. Also Eczema or atopic dermatitis are common with Emmett skin types, keloids which are like a raised scar that doesn’t improve over time and it just starts to appear kind of smooth and pink or purple people that keloid they usually know that you’ve probably seen that on your skin.
You also might have videligo. That could be another condition associated with Emmett skin types or psoriasis. Also people that have acute skin issues and infections that are reoccurring, so maybe fungal infections and you keep getting them or, or if you get warts and they just keep coming back. You could be an Emmett skin type. Also seborrheic dermatitis that commonly shows up on like the corners of the nose behind the ears, on the scalp. It can be other places as well. And so what’s what the root causes behind Emmett skin type that, tie them all together, have a lot to do. Really the underlying factor here is the immune system. The immune system is out of balance with all of these and it’s not working optimally, which leads to these three root causes so these three root causes of the six are inflammation, microbiome disturbance and hormonal imbalances.
Now they’re different different ways. Then the other skin types we talk about also important, so let’s talk about how to address these root causes if you’re an Emmett skin type. Now keep in mind the biggest thing here we’re trying to do with Emmetts is to balance your immune system. We want to get it working properly and so we went up to support a healthy immune response. What are the ways that we can do that is to watch out for and avoid is to find and avoid your big trigger foods. Anything that and in the environment that triggers the immune system is going to worsen Emmett skin types. So if you’re eating foods that you’re reactive to, that you’re allergic or intolerant and sensitive to that is going to cause your immune system to overreact. And so we want to take those out to give your body a chance to calm down and address some of the other root causes which will help address inflammation and some of the other things.
So you want to find and eliminate the trigger foods. You also want to find other triggers in the environment, environmental toxins, other environmental allergies that might be a trigger and avoid those as well as much as possible. Now what we want to do is we want to build up the body while you’re eliminating those and if you need help with that I have, you can follow my plan, my two week plan in the Clean Skin from Within book and I explain exactly how to go step by step through that and avoid the big trigger foods. And then at the end reintroduced them back in to see. You can find out which ones are your big triggers. W
While you’re doing that, you want to nourish the body and support it to get it back to a healthy place. You want to address gut issues, address the gut microbiome. Might want to take a probiotic supplement like The Spa Dr.’s Microbiome Builder, and you want to be eating those probiotic rich foods. Really look at ways that you can improve your digestion, your gut microbiome, because what happens with Emmett skin types is that they tend to have leaky skin. Oh yeah, I know I said it. Leaky skin, if you haven’t heard of that, your skin barrier, your skin microbiome is compromised. So that’s a big reason that you got issues going on with your skin. So you want to address leaky by improving your skin microbiome. Part of that comes from the gut, so you want to improve your gut microbiome and fix any leaky gut issues. So you might have hyperpermeability issues in your gut. That’s very common in the Emmett skin types, so you definitely want to address those partly by avoiding the triggers and also taking things like probiotics and also other things that support the gut lining like l-glutamine, and other nutrients that help with that. Collagen also helps with that. So you want to help address those gut issues.
You want to get key nutrients. A lot of Emmett skin types have nutritional deficiencies because they have leaky gut, they have digestive issues that have gut issues so they’re not absorbing nutrients from their food. So you want to make sure you’re getting those nutrients back in. So you might want to consider taking The Spa Dr. Skin Hair and Nail Support supplement. Some of the key nutrients for Emmett types are zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D and B vitamins. Those are all really important.
Also with the Emmett skin types, you want to do stress management, stress is going to worsen Emmett skin types. You get stressed out, your skin is going to worsen. I’ve seen it, I’ve experienced that. I know how it is, I’ve seen it in my patients as well. Stress Management is so key for Emmett skin types. So look at the clean mind section of the Clean Skin from Within book. Check out some of the stress management podcast guests that I’ve had on and figure out the way that you can do this. And I know that skin issues can be a stress trigger, so then that makes everything worse. So make sure you’re working on some stress management and of course you want to be using on the surface you want you to be getting that skin microbiome built back up using soothing and nourishing skin care products. The Spa Dr.s Daily Essentials does this as well. It helps with, it has that perfect Ph for the skin. It helps support the skin microbiome. It is good for sensitive skin types. If you’re sensitive, if you have Emmett skin, you tend to be sensitive. You don’t have to worry about that with The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials.
So moving on to the next skin type and that’s the Amber skin type. Another really important skin type. They’re all important, I love all the skin types and um, you know, this is really about addressing your root causes so you can love the skin you’re in. And this is one of the things I hear a lot from Amber skin types is that when they are able to clear up their skin, their issues, they learn to love their skin. Finally, they don’t have to keep covering up. Okay. So skin conditions associated with Amber, darkening of certain areas of the skin. This is also known as hyper pigmentation. You have hyperpigmentation, probably what is people are, is constantly trying to cover it up or using are skin lightening creams and things that actually are can, can actually be damaging to your skin. So watch out for that.
Also you might tend to have patches of freckles. Now I have freckles but I’m not really an amber skin type so it’s um, more if you have a lot of freckles, you have patches of freckles. Also you might have brown or gray patches on the face. They’re oftentimes on the cheeks is known as melasma, so you might have it. It’s also sometimes called the mask of pregnancy because it shows up in pregnant women and then it doesn’t go away usually. So a lot of, I have a lot of people, a lot of women in particular that are the amber skin type and frustrated with that hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. So if you have that uneven, maybe you have what’s called or liver spots or age spots. Those are also signs of Amber skin type. There are two root causes of the six associated with Amber skin types.
Those are oxidative damage and hormonal imbalances. These are the big ones that you want to focus on as the Amber skin type. And I see so much success with this and I know it’s frustrating because a lot of ambers are told, you just said something just going to have to live with or you’re going to have to bleach your skin or do something invasive, but you can actually reverse these. You can prevent more by addressing these root causes internally and externally and so you want to protect your skin. You want to make sure that as you’re doing all this internal work that you’re not getting additional hyperpigmentation issues. So you want to use a good high quality clean sun block. We have one that we sell at the spot after that we highly recommend you can look in the store and you can find it there.
It’s a zinc oxide based sunblock. You’re not going to find chemical sunscreen and a chemical sunscreen, harmful ingredients in the recommended sunblocks on the spot doctor. But you want to make sure that you’re protecting your skin, wearing hats cover up, staying in the shade in the middle of the day. All of those things that we’ve talked about with protecting the skin. You also want to manage your stress. Amber skin types, they are of course prone to stress too. Actually when you, when you’re stressed, those adrenal hormones kick in, cortisol can actually trigger and worsen hyperpigmentation. You also want to look at what other ways you can balance your hormones and changes in women’s sex hormones. Estrogen and progesterone trigger extra melanin production during sun exposure. And this is what leads to Melasma. And so you want to eat those foods that are from the cruciferous or Brassica vegetable, family, Broccoli, turnips, cabbage, Kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, um, radishes, Rutabaga, all those great components, those that are high end in indole three carbinol which increases the livers ability to metabolize estrogen.
And I recommend lightly steaming those vegetables to improve their nutrient absorbability. So make sure you’re getting plenty of those vegetables in and looking at other ways you can balance your hormones that I have some other recommendations and my book clean skin from within some supplements and other supportive things. I’ve also had podcast guests come on talking about hormone balance because it is one of those big root causes. You also want to increase your antioxidant and take they to help protect against that oxidative damage as being one of the big root causes. So one of my favorite supplements for the Amber skin type is our Astaxanthin+Omega Krill Supplement. Astaxanthin is my favorite antioxidant for the amber skin type. It helps protect the skin from the inside out. So that’s one that I would encourage you to start including. It’s also high end things like wild salmon and so you want to,get some clean sources of wild Alaskan salmon is a great source or Pacific Salmon. Make sure it’s wild, it’s not farmed so you don’t have the environmental contaminants.
You also want to use clean balancing skincare. This is really important because your skin is out of balance. You want to even out the skin tone. So The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials Skin Care System, using it twice a day, morning and night. It’s consistency is key with the Amber skin type. Getting results using The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials as you’ve got to use it every day, twice a day. And we did, we’ve Duh, we did a feedback program with our customers, with several hundred of our customers when we first launched The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials and we had them take before and after pictures, before they got started with the products. And after 30 days we had them doing two different surveys and we got on a call with them and we talked to them about their, their experience and their before and after pictures. And we really did see where the amber skin types really did see a change in their skin. Sometimes the people on the call with them and say, are you wearing makeup in the second picture because your skin looks so much more smooth and even. So that is definitely the big, one of the biggest comments and feedback we get using The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials is people’s skin looks more even they don’t need to wear makeup because they don’t have, they don’t have the things to hide that they used to have to wear. And a lot of people will go makeup free. And also people notice the texture, the smoothness of their skin also is something that they noticed.
So moving into the heath skin type and he is um, an another one that I personally have struggled with and something that is personal to me as see this on a lot of my patients. So the characteristic common side of it, common skin conditions associated and signs say stay with the he skin type art, red or inflamed skin. And it might even have a little bit of a bumpy texture. Oftentimes the heath skin type has rosacea. And so this is redness on the cheeks, forehead, and sometimes the chin too and it may include little bumps. So it, sometimes this is misdiagnosed as acne when it’s actually rosacea. So it can be a little red bumps that appear on the cheeks and they never come to a head. So you wonder, is this really acne? It may not be. So you go to your local dermatologist, find out if this is actually your skin condition. Find out trying to diagnose yourself. It’s a lot easier to go and see your dermatologist and ask them to help you with the diagnosis. Sensitive skin is common with the, Heath skin types.
So one of the most sensitive skin types out there are the Heath skin types. They have to be so careful with everything that they put on their skin. Their skin flushes easily. And their skin is oftentimes reactive to weather or temperature. And they may even have visible blood vessels on the little teeny little blood vessels visible on their nose and cheeks. You see these more commonly and men, um, maybe partly because they’re not trying to, again, they don’t usually cover up with makeup, but you might see that. And so those are signs of a Heath skin type, you don’t necessarily have need to have all of these signs that have as he skin type. But the root causes are inflammation, microbiome disturbance and hormonal imbalances.
To address these root causes, you want to work on reducing inflammation that is key both internally and externally because you want to reduce all those triggers that feel the fire. You want to reduce that skin fluctuation, that internal inflammation that’s showing up on the scan, eating a good anti inflammatory diet. Look at the foods that are in the clean skin from within book that plant based foods, wild Alaskan Salmon, um, those plant rich antioxidants and, and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Those are all great. Also, you might want to consider taking a supplement like the Astaxanthin Omega Krill supplement that has some of those anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also very important to balance your gut, get back to your gut health and do all those things that I’ve talked about with the other skin types that have that gut microbiome as a big root cause.
