Looking for ways to recapture that naturally youthful skin you had years ago? Or do you ever feel like you’re aging more rapidly than other women your age? Or are you struggling with the early signs of aging – such as wrinkles, loose skin, fine lines, etc?
If you answered yes to any of the above… then you most likely have SAGE skin. If so, you may be wishing you had taken a little better care of your skin in your younger years, or maybe you’re a little angry at yourself for not wearing more sunscreen. Or perhaps you just have some tough genetics working against you.
It’s normal for your skin to change as you age because collagen and elastin wear down with time, as well as with greater exposure to weather and lifestyle factors. Still, everyone wants to look their age, or if we’re honest – just a bit younger. Luckily, a natural approach can help you do just that.
NOT SURE WHICH SKIN TYPE YOU ARE?
TAKE THE SKIN QUIZ NOW!
SAGE Skin Type Overview
Let’s look at what exactly it means to have SAGE skin. It’s important to recognize the characteristics and root causes of the skin conditions in order for you to improve the health of your skin.
Common skin conditions for SAGE skin:
- Chronically dry skin
- Delayed wound healing
- Excessive wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Loose skin
- Thin skin
What causes SAGE type skin?
The four main causes of SAGE skin are:
- Oxidative damage
- Blood sugar issues
- Hormonal imbalances
- Nutritional deficiencies
Dietary and lifestyle changes can help address these issues. For example, excess sugar intake causes collagen to break down, making you more prone to have wrinkled, sagging skin. In addition to reducing sugar, you can address nutritional deficiencies – particularly a lack of vitamin C and essential fatty acids – to help build collagen. You can also improve your skin’s texture by balancing your hormones.
A Holistic Approach For SAGE Skin
With SAGE skin, it’s important to reduce or remove triggers that cause oxidative damage to your skin, and instead feed and repair your body with antioxidant-rich foods and skin care. Nutritional deficiencies in your body are common as time passes. So as a woman with SAGE type skin you’ll want to be particularly attentive to your diet. Here are some specific things you can do to help minimize the effects of aging on your skin.
-
- Protect Your Skin
Excess sun exposure causes your skin to lose elasticity and age quickly. Protect your skin on the outside by limiting time in the sun during peaks hours, wearing hats and using a high-quality mineral sunscreen. And, protect your skin from the inside out by consuming antioxidant-rich foods such as wild salmon and berries. - Avoid Excess Sugar
Excess sugar intake elevates your blood sugar, which causes glycation issues, and, in turn, harms the collagen in your skin (meaning more wrinkles and sagging skin). That doesn’t mean you can never eat sweets again. Rather, keep an eye on your consumption and support a healthy blood sugar balance through diet and lifestyle changes. I recommend getting a copy to my book, Clean Skin From Within, to help you get on track with healthy eating habits. - Balance Your Hormones
As you age, your hormones change. While most of your hormones—like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone—decline, your stress hormone cortisol may rise. All of this affects your skin texture and appearance. So take time to enjoy daily stress management techniques to balance cortisol, like breath-work, meditation, yoga, and moderate exercise. And, eat foods that support hormone metabolism such as broccoli, cabbage, and other cruciferous veggies, garlic and onions, and colorful fruits and veggies. - Boost Your Nutrients
Sage skin needs key nutrients to maintain collagen and stay healthy. For example, essential fatty acids support your skin cells hydration and function, and vitamin C helps build and maintain collagen. You can get vitamin C by eating foods such as strawberries and broccoli or through a supplement like Vitamin C Fizz.Collagen is a naturally occurring fibrous protein, and it makes up 70 to 80 percent of your skin’s dry weight. It’s also the most abundant protein in the human body. It’s thought to be the glue that holds the body together and, with respect to your skin, provides elasticity and strength. As you age your collagen production decreases causing problems such as wrinkles and sagging skin. If you’re already minimizing sun exposure, smoking, and reducing your sugar intake, you can also support collagen production by taking a collagen supplement such as Collagen Plus. - Rejuvenating Skin Care
Nourish and protect your skin on the outside by using nontoxic skin care containing natural actives, antioxidants, and organic ingredients. For SAGE skin, I recommend using all four steps of the Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System both morning and night. When using this skin care system, be sure to apply step 2 on the delicate skin in the eye area because it also works well in place of an eye cream. It’s also terrific to use steps 2, 3 and 4 on the neck and décolleté.

What Women with SAGE Skin are Saying
“The Spa Dr.’s Daily Essentials is amazing. It was hard choosing my favorite of the four! I loved the natural scents and how readily they absorbed into the skin. Best of all was how healthy it made the skin. While using I had a friend say how amazing my skin was and that she didn’t see any wrinkles! Will be 49 in a few months, I loved the compliment and the Spa Daily Essentials.”
