It’s one thing to love the skin care products you use every day – and it’s another to maximize how you use them.
As an esthetician at The Spa Dr., one of my favorite things to do is help people discover how they can not only make the most of their products but make it an indulgent and luxurious experience every time.
Your skin care routine is an important part of self-care. The tips and secrets I’m sharing with you can make your routine even more enjoyable and effective, especially if you’re using the Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System.
Secret #1: Wash Your Face for Two Minutes
As busy people, it’s so easy to rush through some of the most important parts of the day. However, when you skip making time to thoroughly wash your face, you’re missing out on a few benefits!
First, a two-minute cleanse twice daily preps your skin for using other products. That means your skin will absorb your moisturizer and serum even better. Cleansing also breaks down any impurities on the surface of the skin and helps remove dead skin cells. So crank up your favorite music and spend two minutes pampering your skin with your cleanser.
And don’t forget to spend some time cleansing and massaging your neck, décolleté, and back of your hands as well. Your skin is more delicate and thinner in these places than on other parts of the body. They can also show age faster than other parts of the body.
Secret #2: Use Your Skin Care Day and Night
It’s a myth that skin care only needs to be used once daily to be effective. Use skin care products twice daily to protect the skin during the day and repair the skin during the night.
When we wash our face and use pH-balanced products in the morning, we are protecting our skin from whatever the day may bring (and that’s a lot!): UV rays, free radical damage, pollution, sweat, makeup, and much more. Your skin care also creates a smooth canvas for your SPF and makeup application.
When we repeat our skincare routine in the evening, not only are we washing away all the grime the day threw at us, but we are also providing a clean palate for our skin to repair itself while we sleep. Beauty sleep IS real.
Secret #3: Make It a Double
If you’re not double cleansing your skin already, now is a great time to start. A double cleanse is especially important when removing makeup or after spending a day out in the elements.
The first cleanse will grab all the particles of makeup, dust, and other impurities and then wash them away. The second cleanse will not only catch anything that may have been missed but also allow other ingredients to dive deeper into your skin to nourish and heal the surface and deeper layers.
Secret #4: Exfoliate Regularly and With Care
Our skin is supposed to shed its layers, but as we get older, it becomes more difficult for that to happen without a little assistance from us. When we add consistent, gentle exfoliation to our routine, we help our cellular turnover happen at a rate that keeps our barrier function intact and thriving. This will lighten and brighten, improve overall texture, and help lessen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
I love to mix a little bit of The Spa Dr. Pearl and Rose Petal Facial Exfoliant with two pumps of CLEAR: Gentle Cleanser to exfoliate. I apply the mix to my face, neck, and décolleté and massage in small circles. You can focus on areas where you may personally need it, targeting areas with fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or dry patches.
Secret #5: Treat Yourself to Eye and Lip Treatments
Remember what I said about busy lifestyles? Sure, you can just slather a product on your face and go, but next time, try slowing down. After cleansing your face, apply eye and lip products to the back of your hand.
You can use The Spa Dr. NOURISH: Antioxidant Serum or even The Spa Dr. ENHANCE: Glow Boost for this step. Using a small makeup brush, apply around the lips and eyes, focusing on fine lines and wrinkles. Then use middle and ring fingers to gently tap around to stimulate collagen and elastin production while driving the ingredients deeper.
Secret #6: Mix It Up
Don’t be afraid to blend your skin care products. Next time you go to use your NOURISH: Antioxidant Serum, add a little Glow Boost and mix them together.
Serums are lightweight and are absorbed very quickly by the skin. They are also absorbed the easiest of all the products, so when you add another product, the serum will pull it a little deeper than it can typically go on its own! Win-win!
Secret #7: Don’t Forget to Breathe
The next time you’re about to apply your RENEW: Enriched Moisturizer, STOP! Slow down. Inhale. This isn’t a race. Apply a few pumps to your hand and before applying, cup your hands over your nose.
Close your eyes and take three slow, deep breaths. Then apply your products more slowly than you usually would. Add in a little face massage and thank yourself for taking just a few moments out of your day to focus on self-care. This small step can make a big difference.
Your skin care routine should be fun, enjoyable, and relaxing. When you take your time to apply your Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System, you receive more benefits from their organic essential oils and other natural ingredients. Even if you only have ten minutes to spare daily, you can make your skin care routine a special time you can look forward to.
