Here are your questions and Esthetician Jennifer’s responses:
Q. How do I get rid of excess oil on my face?
A. The real question here is how do I get my skin to stop producing excess oil. The key is to find balance with oil and water. When we produce excess oil, it typically means we are lacking water. Using a consistent skin care routine every single day that is packed with non toxic ingredients, such as The Spa Dr. Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System that is pH balanced, will help reduce oil production.
Q. What is the best regimen for Rosacea? Red spots, bumps, etc.
A. Rosacea needs calming, soothing products. What we are putting in our body can also trigger flare ups. #1 trigger is alcohol. Anything you put in your body can trigger a flare up though. For example, hot showers, extreme temperature change (hot or cold), spicy foods, etc.
The process of elimination will be key in determining what your trigger is. You can learn more about the common triggers for rosacea in Dr. Cates’ book Clean Skin From Within.
Q. Is Retinol or Retin A, Tetinoin, Adapaleno good for acne and anti-aging and is it safe?
A. Yes, just make sure you have consulted a physician and use them as directed. . I do not recommend OTC retinols because you do not know what ingredients are being added to the product.
Q. Do anti-aging organic skin care products work? Or should I make my own?
A. Absolutely. However, healthy skin requires consistency. Using a clean regimen, such as The Spa Dr. Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System, ideally 2x per day. Our customers generally report a 60-80% improvement in the skin after a consistent regiment over 4-6 weeks. Now, you can absolutely see results before then and not see results until after that because everyone varies.
Q. Is there anything to do to keep blackheads at bay?
A. I recommend monthly facials for blackheads and/or bi monthly either enzyme peel or chemical peel. Be sure to see someone well-trained in these procedures.
Q. Do topical collagen creams work to increase collagen production?
A. Collagen molecules are too large to enter your skin where they would do the most good. So, using a skin care line made with organic and natural ingredients, where the active ingredients are helping protect against collagen loss, would be more beneficial.
Q. I have dry skin and lots of wrinkles on my face – how can I soften them so I can wear makeup without having to worry about the makeup getting into my wrinkles?
A. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!! Using The Spa Dr. Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System 2x daily will most definitely help with the dryness in your skin. Using a facial primer before apply your makeup will help with the appearance of make up on skin with fine lines. However, I cannot see your skin, so it’s hard to tell whether just a facial primer will help with this. I recommend seeing your local dermatologist for a visit about options because, sometimes we need more help with fine lines.
Q. Does your skin care routine help with dark spots? Also, do I just use the same products for the eye area?
A. The cold pressed plant-based oils in The Spa Dr. Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System have natural lightening properties. It takes time to lighten any spots on the skin, so consistency and patience are very important.
No eye cream is necessary, isn’t that wonderful?! The Spa Dr. products are so gentle that you can use them as close to the eye as needed.
Q. I am going through menopause and I have acne that I just can’t seem to deal with. Any suggestions?
A. Have you read Clean skin from Within? I definitely suggest some dietary changes and using a consistent skin care line. Hormonal acne is tricky, tricky! You have to attack it both externally and internally. Also, have you taken Dr. Cates’ Skin Quiz? If not, take it for tips to start addressing the root cause.
Q. Why do I get skin tags on my neck and dark spots on face? And how do I clear them up?
A. Skin tags are typically from areas that have a lot of friction on the skin, so the neck area makes sense due to clothing and jewelry. Regular exfoliation will help prevent them, but even then, they might still come back. Going to see your local dermatologist for treatment to get them removed is a great place to start.
Getting rid of Dark Spots takes time and consistency. The Spa Dr. Daily Essentials 4-Step Skin Care System has a beautiful blend of cold pressed plant-based oils that will help naturally lighten darker pigmented areas over time. Patience is key.
