5 Mature Skin Myths Busted

We live in a society saturated with advertisements promising a quick fix for ageless skin. Unfortunately, many of these ads feed on insecurities and aren’t realistic about the truth:

Aging is a natural process, and women are beautiful at all ages.

After all, wrinkles are a sign you’ve been living and laughing! Some of the most beautiful women I’ve ever known have been in their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Still, we don’t want to look older than we are, so let’s bust some myths, help you age gracefully, and maintain your natural beauty at every age!

Women with mature skin often share concerns about skin cancer, wrinkles, sagging skin, and hyperpigmentation. The right lifestyle choices, including skin care and diet, play a large role in how your body and skin age. Healthy choices can actually help change your genetic expression to assist in graceful aging. So it’s important to start taking care of your skin at a young age; however, if you haven’t, it is never too late to start.

Even small changes quickly contribute to improving skin health, no matter how old you are.

If you are a Sage skin type, it may seem like you are aging faster than other people your age. You may also be struggling with how to approach signs of aging, including wrinkles, loose skin, and fine lines. You can take steps to slow down and perhaps even reverse these changes though.

Whether you’re currently experiencing signs of “mature skin” or you’re wanting to prevent them down the road, let’s take a look at common mature skin myths, so you can feel confident at every age.

Myth #1: Mature Skin Is A Concern Only After You Turn 50

It’s always a good idea to plan ahead and provide your body with the right nutrients and skin care products to protect and nourish your skin. This helps set you up for graceful aging rather than rapid aging. Many young adults do not think about skin health or mature skin. This time of life is often a prime time when you can cause damage to skin that can last a lifetime, or show up later in life.

Your skin has its own microbiome that helps keep it clear of blemishes and breakouts. The microbiome also prevents premature aging so that you can have beautiful skin for years to come. To keep the microbiome healthy, it is important to maintain the proper pH level. A mildly acidic environment helps keep your skin’s microbiome in balance. You can maintain the microbiome of your skin by using a pH-balanced cleanser to support the skin’s natural acid mantle and healthy moisture levels.

Myth #2: After 40, 50, or 60 – It’s Too Late To Improve Your Skin

The health of your skin is important throughout your entire life. You do not reach a certain age where skin health stops being important. Your skin is the body’s largest organ that protects the body, helps regulate body temperature, and helps you identify pain. Your skin makes Vitamin D, which is essential for the healthy absorption of calcium.

Even if you’ve spent a lot of time in the sun or time has passed and you’re just now starting to pay attention to your skin, it’s not too late! Adding a nourishing skin care system to your daily self-care routine plus loading up with antioxidant-rich produce and supplements can do wonders for your skin. You can still add resilience, protection and a healthy glow!

Myth #3: Skin Care Products “Should” Instantly Reverse Wrinkles & Sagging Skin

Have you ever expected instant gratification from a skin care product? If you apply an anti-wrinkle cream before you go to bed with the hopes your wrinkles will be gone by morning, you will be disappointed. Some skin care products and procedures may temporarily “freeze” skin and improve appearance, but real lasting results require patience. If you are trying a new skin care product, it usually takes up to four weeks to see the full difference. After all, that’s about how long it takes for skin cells to turnover for a revitalized you!

At the same time, you can start to see results quickly with some products. It’s great to take a “before” picture when you start a new skin care routine. We’ve seen rapid results with Step 2 Antioxidant Serum because of ingredients like pullulan and pineapple fruit extract because of  their natural “tightening” effect.

Myth #4: Natural Products Don’t Work

Many people believe that skin care ingredients need to be strong chemicals to be truly effective. That is not the case! The truth is that many skin care products today toxins that disrupt the hormones in your body. It took me years of research and clinical experience to discover just how effective natural products are if they are made correctly. With today’s modern science, we have better non-toxic ingredients than ever to help prevent premature aging and other skin conditions.

Nutrients in their pure form, such as green tea extract, CoQ10, and Vitamin C offer many skin benefits. And as mentioned in myth #3, pineapple is another powerful natural ingredient. Bromelain is an enzyme found in pineapple that digests proteins, including dead cells on the skin’s surface. It also reduces sun damage, something that many women with mature skin struggle with. Natural products do work, and natural is beautiful!

Myth #5: It’s Genetics! That’s Why You Have Mature Skin

Genetics do play a role in how your body will age and that includes your skin. The health of your family members does say something about your own health. In fact, if you are a Sage skin type, you probably have genes that make you susceptible to premature aging. But genetics are not the only factor that contributes to skin health.

There are many external roles that influence the health of your skin. Too much sun causes damage despite what your DNA contributes. Stress causes elevated cortisol levels in your blood, which causes your skin to react by producing more oil or acne. Stress can even cause skin rashes. A poor diet and dehydration may lead to dryness behind the appearance of premature aging. You can give your skin a moisture boost with nutrient-rich oils by using a plant-based product, such as Glow Boost.

Having mature skin can be absolutely radiant and beautiful. Aging is a gift, and smile lines mean that you had a lot of fun laughing! Know that you can nourish and revitalize mature skin by taking control of your diet and skin care routine. By doing this, you can face the day with skin that reveals your natural beauty.
